The Sit-In Series (for Jazz Vocalists and Instrumentalists)

The Sit-In Series is a supportive jazz workshop for all ages and experience levels. Whether you’re just starting out or strengthening your foundation, you’ll learn jazz standards, improvisation, and bandstand skills—without the pressure of an audition. The curriculum is based on the teaching methods of Justin DiCioccio, who built renowned jazz programs at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and the Manhattan School of Music.

A jazz sit-in is a musical introduction. This workshop is your flight simulator—a safe place to prepare for the bandstand. The Sit-In Series teaches you what to play and how to participate on the bandstand. Instrumental skills are best developed through private lessons and participation in a school or community band. We begin with the blues and progress through essential jazz standards, rhythm changes, and transcriptions of famous solos.and vocalese and instrumentation solos.
